The 80s cult TV series “The Greatest American Hero” is coming to a theater near you. Creator Stephen J. Cannell confirms that the project is in the development stages.
Cannell told the audience at a panel at the Screen Actors Guild foundation’s 75th anniversary, “We’ve written a screenplay, and we’ve hired a director, and we’re in the midst of putting this together for the future.”
The show, which ran for 3 seasons from 1981 to 1983, starred William Katt as Ralph Hinkley, a school teacher for “special students” who found a red suit that has superpowers but no instruction manual. Robert Culp and Connie Sellecca also starred in the 80s superhero dramedy.
The creator also “absolutely guaranteed” roles for the original casts.
Sellecca asked, “Cameos for us?”
Cannel replied, “Absolutely guaranteed. More than cameos: acting jobs.”
